The nephew of Congressman George Denison, he was born in Wyoming Valley, Pennsylvania, and graduated from Dickinson College in Carlisle (1838). He studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1840 and set up a law practice in Wilkes-Barre. Denison was elected as a Democrat to the Thirty-Eighth and two succeeding US Congresses, representing Pennsylvania's 12th District, and served from 1863 until his death in office at age 49. He had also been a delegate to the 1864 Democratic National Convention. There is a cenotaph for him at Congressional Cemetery in Washington, DC. (bio by: Bobb Edwards)
