Grandma Ketchum
On Thursday morning February 19th, the spirit of "Grandma" Ketchum passed to its well earned reward after a sojourn of 90 years and a half in its frame of clay and in the world of heartaches and joys. She was known as the "Grand Old Lady of Lisbon: for her sterling Christian character and kindly ministrations of life.
For many years she made her home at her grandson's J. Richmond, and up to within a week of her death was able to take her part in all the activities of the home equal to many two score younger than she.
She was a member of the local Methodist church and was given a funeral by the membership attending in a body to do her honor as a Christian and faithful child of the "Faith once delivered unto the saints" Rev. H. Styles Hariss, pastor of the church, officiated at the service.
Grandma was born in New York State, July 12 1829. Married and moved to Wisconsin about 70 years ago, when the West was new and civilization had not begun to sweep across the desert of America. She followed the advice of Horace Greely "Go West! and grow up with the country" She then moved to Illinois and then to Minnesota and onward to North Dakota. She has two daughters living in Wisconsin and one son out west.
Folks in Lisbon will miss her genial presence and the relating of her varied experience of life and the great experience in Christ.
Funeral service was held last Friday afternoon and internment to be made in Oakwood Cemetery. John Wesley said "Our people die well" Grandma's death was a victorious inheritance to the lad of rest.
