MRS.SAMUEL S. HALE

DEATH COMES WITHIN A WEEK TO THIRD MEMBER OF FAMILY AFTER BRIEF ILLNESS

The community was saddened Wednesday to learn of the unexpected death of Mrs. Samuel S. Hale after a few days' illness of pneumonia. She was removed to the Oxford hospital on Saturday of last week. On Monday her condition became serious, and her death came Wednesday at 1:00 o'clock. Her mother, Mrs. Mary D. Arrison, died last Thursday and her sister-in-law, Mrs. Julie Eastman, of the same household, passed away on Monday of this week.

Anna Arrison Hale was the daughter of the late Mary D. and John R. Arrison and was born June 27,1868 in Jersey City. When a small child, she along with her mother and sisters, came to Oxford to live. She was a student of Oxford Academy and later taught school for several years.

In June 1898 she was united in marriage with Samuel S. Hale and the first years of their married life were spent in Oxford. Later they lived in Syracuse, and Cleveland, Ohio. While in Syracuse she was a member of the Fourth Presbyterian Mission Church of that city and was a member of the Presbyterian Mission church while in Cleveland. Upon her return to Oxford, she identified herself with the Congregational Church.

Mrs. Hale was an earnest worker in the Sunday School, having been for several years Superintendent of the Primary department. Always very musical, her presence in the church choir was a very great help. She was also an active worker in the Ladies Aid Society and the Missionary Outlook Club. She was interested in everything that pertained to the welfare of this community; a member of the Round Robin Club and of the Joseph Jefferson club and took a prominent part of work of the Ladies Village Improvement Society and will be greatly missed in these organizations as well as by a large circle of friends.

Mrs. Hale is survived by her husband, Samuel S. Hale, and one sister, Mrs. James S. Parsons, and a nephew, Holister Parsons, of Washington, D.C. The funeral services will be conducted by Rev. John M. Chambers from the Congregational Church Chapel on Saturday at 2:00 o'clock. Interment in Riverview Cemetery.

PNEUMONIA TAKES 3 IN OXFORD FAMILY

FOURTH SUFFERING FROM SAME DISEASE ADMITTED TO HOSPITAL

Norwich-Dec.28-Three people from one Oxford household have died of pneumonia at the Oxford hospital within a week, and the fourth and only remaining member was taken to the hospital this afternoon.

Wednesday of last week Mrs. M.D. Arrison died after a few days' illness. She was 81 years old and a life-long resident of Oxford. Her funeral was held Saturday afternoon.

Mrs. Julia Eastman, the second member of the household, was stricken Saturday and died Monday morning. She was a former Norwich resident, and her funeral will be held here Thursday afternoon from the home of a niece, Mrs. Harry B. Smith. Mrs. Eastman was a siter of Samuel T. Hale, editor of the Oxford Review-Times.

Mrs. Hale, the daughter of Mrs. Arrison, was stricken a day after her mother's funeral and died at noon Wednesday. All were members of the Congregational church where Mrs. Hale was a soloist in the choir, a prominent worker in the church, and a leader in the social lines of the village. She was born in Oxford and had always lived there excepting for a few years after her marriage to Mr. Hale when they resided in Syracuse. Her funeral will be held in the church at Oxford Saturday afternoon. Besides her husband, Mrs. Hale leaves one sister, Mrs. May Parsons of Washington, D.C. who had hardly reached home from attending her mother's funeral before she was apprised of her sister's death.

This afternoon Mr. Hale the last remaining member of the family was received at the hospital suffering, the physician said, from pneumonia. His condition is serious.
