| Birth: | Jan. 15, 1932 | | Death: | Jul. 14, 2000 | Major League Baseball player. A native of Lévis (Québec), he played his minor baseball years with Lévis before graduating with the Braves of Québec. It is at this time that the scouts from the Milwaukee Braves discovered him with his right-hand pitching talents. With Ron Piché and Claude Raymond, he formed a trio of Quebeckers in Louisville in the Baseball American Association. On April 26, 1960, he dressed up in the uniform of the Giants of San Francisco. He did not play regularly because the Giants wanted to make place in rotation with their new recruit and future star pitcher Juan Marichal. Two years later, he joined the Twins of Minnesota. He played thirteen seasons in professional baseball, of which two in the Major Leagues. His records show two victories and seven defeats with an average of deserved points of 4.53. He played during 123.1 innings and withdrew 64 strikers on catches. He retired from major baseball in 1963, moving then to Jacksonville in the American Association. In 1973-1974, he coached the Carnivals of Quebec, in the Eastern League. In 1973, his hometown of Lévis honoured him by naming its baseball park the George-Maranda Stadium. In June 2000, he was elected to the Québec Baseball Hall of Fame. (bio by: Guy Gagnon)
