Mrs. Jones of Beeville, Texas, went to be with her Lord on Wednesday, October 16, 2013. She was greeted by her husband of 64 years – Homer Jefferson Jones.
She was born in Panola County to William T. and Gertice Abernathy on August 3, 1918. They preceded her in death. Also preceding her were her brothers, George Abernathy and Quentin Abernathy, a sister, Epsie Lee (Richard) Hull, and her son-in-laws parents, Monroe and Emma Finke.
Mrs. Jones graduated from Carthage High School. She married Homer Jefferson Jones on November 8, 1939 in Henderson, Texas.
She, her husband and daughter, lived in Henderson for many years. They moved to Texas City, Texas in October of 1953, and to Houston, Texas, in winter of 1963. After retiring from J.C. Penney Co. accounting Department, she and husband (retired V.A. Commission State Service officer) moved back to their home in Henderson, Texas, in the late 1970's. After losing her husband in 2003, she moved to Beeville, Texas, to be near her daughter and family. She was a resident of Woodridge Nursing Home at the time of her death.
She was a dedicated wife, mother/ grandparent, and talented home maker. She was active in many church, community, and family activities.
She was a member of First Baptist Church of Henderson, Texas.
Following the service her burial will be in Waldrop Cemetery next to her husband.
