Mrs. Mary D. Arrison

Life of Well Known and Esteemed Lady Terminated Thursday After Brief Illness

Mrs. Mary D. Arrison died at her home on Washington Avenue early Thursday morning, December 22, at the age of 81 years. Her death followed an illness of but a few days. For some time, the infirmities of age had been creeping upon her and she was unable to rally from an attack of pneumonia complicated with a heart trouble.

Mrs. Arrison was the daughter of Rev. Amos D. and Arian Corbin Hollister and was born at the Corbin homestead in McDonough on September 24,1846. Her father was the pastor of a Presbyterian Church in Washington, D.C., and his daughter's early life was passed there. She finished her education at a private school for young ladies in that city where her talent for music and the fine arts was continued. She was united in marriage with John R. Arrison of Philadelphia who died during their early married life, after which she moved to this village, with her three daughters, in order to be near her mother's family.

She was a member of the Congregational Church of this village and active in its work while she had her strength. It was her great pleasure to attend all the services of her church and but a week before her death was in her place in the Wednesday evening meeting. For many years she was a member of the "Travelers Club."

Mrs. Arrison is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Samuel Hale of this village and Mrs. James S. Parsons of Washington, D.C., and one grandson, Hollister Parsons.

Funeral service will be held at her home tomorrow, Saturday, at 3:00 p.m., Rev. John M. Chambers, Pastor of the Congregational Church officiating. Burial in Riverview.

PNEUMONIA TAKES 3 IN OXFORD FAMILY

FOURTH SUFFERING FROM SAME DISEASE ADMITTED TO HOSPITAL

Norwich-Dec.28-Three people from one Oxford household have died of pneumonia at the Oxford hospital within a week, and the fourth and only remaining member was taken to the hospital this afternoon.

Wednesday of last week Mrs. M.D. Arrison died after a few days' illness. She was 81 years old and a life-long resident of Oxford. Her funeral was held Saturday afternoon.

Mrs. Julia Eastman, the second member of the household, was stricken Saturday and died Monday morning. She was a former Norwich resident, and her funeral will be held here Thursday afternoon from the home of a niece, Mrs. Harry B. Smith. Mrs. Eastman was a sister of Samuel T. Hale, editor of the Oxford Review-Times.

Mrs. Hale, the daughter of Mrs. Arrison, was stricken a day after her mother's funeral and died at noon Wednesday. All were members of the Congregational church where Mrs. Hale was a soloist in the choir, a prominent worker in the church, and a leader in the social lines of the village. She was born in Oxford and had always lived there excepting for a few years after her marriage to Mr. Hale when they resided in Syracuse. Her funeral will be held in the church at Oxford Saturday afternoon. Besides her husband, Mrs. Hale leaves one sister, Mrs. May Parsons of Washington, D.C., who had hardly reached home from attending her mother's funeral before she was apprised of her sister's death.

This afternoon Mr. Hale the last remaining member of the family was received at the hospital suffering, the physician said, from pneumonia. His condition is serious.
