THE BUFFALO EXPRESS-SUNDAY MORNING APRIL 17, 1887 OBITUARY:
"DEATH OF FRANK HITCHCOCK - Mr. John Frank Hitchcock of Lancaster died at the house of his sister-in-law, Mrs. Avery, early Saturday morning, April 16, 1887. He had been in a miserable state of health all winter and more or less an invalid for years, but his condition was not positively alarming until last week. Mr. Hitchcock was a son of the late John Hitchcock of Cheektowaga, where he was born September 15, 1833. He married Miss Ellen C. Ely on February 4, 1864, and saw her remains placed in the grave three years ago. He has two brothers living, Henry and Apollos, and leaves an only son, Phillip, who is employed in the Buffalo office of the D., L., & W. Railroad. By his decease the town of Lancaster loses one of its best known and most intelligent citizens. The funeral will be on Tuesday at 11 A.M."
