US Congressman. He was only 16 years old when he enrolled in the 6th New Jersey Volunteer Infantry on August 9, 1861. In 1892 he was elected to represent New Jersey's 2nd District in the United States House of Representatives, filling the seat vacated by Congressman James Buchanan, and served from March 4, 1893 to March 3, 1913. In 1912 he attempted to be elected for an eleventh consecutive term, but was defeated by Congressman John Thompson Baker. He passed away in Indians Mills, New Jersey in 1921. (bio by: Russ Dodge)
