Ladislao Vajda
Birth: Aug. 18, 1906
Death: Mar. 26, 1965

Motion Picture Director and Producer. He was born in Budapest (Hungary) and died in Barcelona (Spain). He was the son of playwright Ladislao Vajda. He debuted as director in 1932 with the film "The Begger Student." In 1938, he left Hungary fleeing from nazism and he moved to France and later to Italy. In 1942, he decided to stay in Spain and become Spanish citizen in 1954. He is best remembered for his films "Marcelino, Pan y Vino" (1954), "Un Ángel Pasó por Brooklyn" (The Man Who Wagged His Tail) (1957) and "El Cebo" (Es geschah am hellichten Tag, original title, It Happened in Broad Daylight, USA title) (1958), a masterwork of suspense and terror. He also directed "Wings Over Africa" (1934), "Te Quiero Para Mí" (1944), "Barrio" (1947), "Séptima Página" (1950), "Doña Francisquita" (1952), "Carne de Horca" (1953), "Tarde de Toros" (1955), "Mi Tío Jacinto" (Uncle Hyacynth) (1956) and "Una Chica Casi Formal" (1963).
