Barbara was the youngest of two daughters born to Lawrence Roy French and Kathryn Ruth Lovell. She was a graduate of Maxwell High School.
Out of My Mind, by Kathryn R. French, published 2013, "A Tribute to Barbi" pages 88 & 89. "…….We hold fast to our memories of our very special Barbi. She was beautiful. Her large sparkling, brown eyes, her expressive face, her slender form were outward evidence of the sweetness within. She was truly a "people person", drawing people to her by her incredible smile.
Barbi was active in her church and her community. She chaired the local SHARE program, was chairperson for the Refugee Settlement Committee, held offices in her Christian Women's Fellowship, was a delegate to the National Convention of the Disciples of Christ, an occasional leader in her Bible Study group …and on and on. She and her singing partner, Dr. Larry King, had a music ministry involving two Christian churches in Raleigh, plus ministering to nursing homes, prisons, or anywhere else in need of an uplifting experience. She was a loving Mom to son David and daughter Laura. She was a best friend and confidante of her sister Maribeth, and she had a special relationship with her beloved Auntie Lois. And she was our baby.
A friend, Dr. Don Lucy, stated after her death, "A light has gone out of Raleigh today."
We miss her so much! But we are eternally grateful that our memories of her are sweet. She was a funny, bouncy little girl, a sweet and cooperative teenager, and a giving, accomplished adult. Our lives were infinitely enriched by having loved our Barbi. May she rest in peace."
Til next time, Kathy"
