Rodney was the son of Jerome E. Delisle and Aurelie Delisle of Waterville ME and he enlisted in the US Marine Corps on June 26, 1968 in Bangor ME. He arrived in Vietnam on December 19, 1968 where he was assigned for duty with Company F, 2d Battalion, 4th Marines, 3d MARDIV (Rein) FMF.

Searching for the enemy at the northern portion of the Song Cam Lo valley in Huong Hoa District of Quang Tri Province the Marines of Company F entered into an ambush. Four enemy clay more mines were detonated and the NVA opened up with rifle fire on the Marines. The enemy were quickly engaged and after a brief fire fight withdrew into the thick undergrowth. Two Marines were killed, and five men wounded during the confrontation with the enemy. One of the casualties was PFC Delisle who was killed in action as a result of multiple fragmentation wounds.
