Charles was the son of George DePew Watson and Sarah Ann McCalla Hubley. Nancy Voelker indicates Charles was a salesman of some type and died in Denver located in Arapahoe Co. in 1879. In 1880, Annie and her children were living in Valley Twp., Morris Co., Kansas. Annie was working as a servant in 1880 for Thomas Kenny and his family and she is noted as widowed on the census. Thomas was a farmer. Possibly Charles took Annie and children with him as far as Kansas, and died after he went on ahead and reached Denver. However his death is recorded on the 1880 mortality schedule in Morris Co., Kansas.
Daughters Cora and Lillian born in 1873 and 1874 were born in Brooklyn, New York, and their son Jesse born in 1875 was born in Manhattan. However Robert was born in Pittsburgh in 1877, and as mentioned by 1879 they were in Kansas, so obviously Charles did travel. There is a Charles Watson, Cpl Co E 141 Ohio NG Inf (no dates) buried in the Clark's Creek Cemetery, Morris County according to Morris County Cemeteries, Volume II. I have never found a service record for Charles Shaler Watson and do not know why he would have enlisted in Ohio. If he was a salesman before the Civil War, this could be the same man, but I find it doubtful.
