Ruth Jackson was born in Wenatchee, Washington, the youngest of four daughters born to Haywood and Melissa Jackson of Salyerville, Kentucky. Her father died when she was just three years old of the flu epidemic in the early 1900's.
She attended Sunnyslope High School where she met, my Grandfather, Herb Diede. They married and had 3 children and were Apple Growers with multiple successful ranches.
She worked alongside her husband for their entire married life and was recognized by the Wenatchee Daily World as one of the first women to act as foreman over those in the Diede's employ. For many years, Ruth also volunteered with other women of the community for the Molitor Hospital Guild. She was a hard worker and the backbone of her family.
In August 1974 she learned she had uterine cancer. She passed just over four months later. Her Christmas shopping list, for me and my brother, was in her purse.
