John L. Carson, 89, of Morton passed away at 2:40 p.m. Monday, Oct. 14, 2013, at Snyder Village Health Center in Metamora.

He was born Dec. 12, 1923, in Peoria, the third of four children of John and Florence (Wall) Carson. He married Margaret Allenspach on July 25, 1946, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She preceded him in death on Sept. 18, 2003. He later married Bernice Weeks on Oct. 23, 2004, in Mackinaw.

Surviving are his wife, Bernice Carson of Morton; his brother, Robert (Mary) Carson of North Port, Fla.; his sister-in-law, Raymonde Carson of Danvers, Mass.; his goddaughter, Linda Revere of Rancho Cordova, Calif.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Also surviving are three stepchildren, Richard (Norma) Weeks of Morton, Diane (Arlis) Scarborough of McDonough, Ga., and Dale (Debbie) Weeks of Mackinaw; 10 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Charles; and one sister, Idabell.

He was a World War II Army veteran. Following his service in the Army, he re-enlisted and served with the United States Air Force Reserve, where he attained the rank of major.

John attended and graduated from Bradley University in Peoria and he moved to Janesville, Wis., in 1952, where he worked as a project engineer for the Instruments Division of the Geo W. Borg Corp. He retired in January of 1989, after 37 years of service.

He was a member of New Castle Bible Church in Mackinaw, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 17, 2013, with Pastor Phil Somers, Pastor Troy Willey and Pastor Dennis Schlappi officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 16, at Knapp-Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Morton, and from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Thursday at the church. Military rites will be conducted following the services at the church. Cremation will be accorded following services, with entombment of the cremated remains at a later date at Milton Lawns Memorial Park & Mausoleum in Janesville, Wis.

Memorials may be made to The Gideons International, New Castle Bible Church in Mackinaw or to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.
