Hon. George Torrance was stricken by death on Tuesday (Oct. 3) morning at about ten o'clock, death being due to appoplexy and chronic Bright's disease. Mr. Torrance had been feeling better than usual and during the morning had visited a number of Pontiac's business houses and conversed with friends. He was found in a stupor sitting in a chair, and was dead before medical aid could reach him.
George Torrance was born in Fairfield county, Ohio, May 15, 1847, and came to Danville, Ill. in 1863. In January 1865 he enlisted in Co. E., 149th Ill., and at the close of the war returned to Danville. A few years later he came to Chatsworth and clerked for the firm of Ross & Yates.
In 1869 Mr. Torrance was married to Eliza M. Fenn, daughter of E.P. Fenn, formerly of this city, who with their two children, Herbert E., who is judge in the Department of Interior at Washington, D.C., and Miss Grace T., survive.
The funeral services were held at Pontiac today under the auspices of the G.A.R.

Pontiac, Ill., Oct. 4. —Ex-Senator George Torrance died suddenly. He was a prominent politician and superintendent of the Illinois State Reformatory during the Tanner administration.
