Roy C. Herbold, Sr., 80, 305 E. 15th St. N, a former longtime resident of the Kellogg area and resident of Newton since 1964, died Sunday evening, May 19, at Skiff Medical Center after suffering a heart attack.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home.
The Rev. Nolan Kelsey, pastor of the Hickory Grove Church in Rock Creek Township, will conduct services.
Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Friends may call after noon Tuesday at the funeral home and visition with the family will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorials to the American Heart Association may be left at the funeral home.
Survivors are his wife, Irene E.; a son, Roy C. "Bud;" a daughter, Laura Smith of Colfax; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a brother, Howard of Newton; and a half-sister, Charlotte Alexander of Cameliel, Ark.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Betty Ruth in infancy; and a brother, Glenn.
Mr. Herbold was a member of the Hickory Grove Church, the Golden Agers and was an avid gardener and naturalist.
Mr. Herbold farmed in the Kellogg area for several years and was employed at Newton Implement until his retirement.
The son of Charles A. and Laura Menning Herbold, he was born Sept. 23, 1910 in Newton and was a graduate of Newton Community High School.
He was married to Irene E. McNeal Dec. 6, 1933 in Vinton.
