Margaret E. Derkum, age 90, of Sedalia, died on Tuesday December 30, 2008 at Fair View Nursing Home.

She was born on May 22, 1918 in Blackwater, Missouri, daughter of Jessie Samuel and Queen Victoria Lawson Pettis. She was married on Feb. 17, 1964 in Independence, Missouri to Perry Raymond Derkum and he died in 1993.

She attended school in Longwood, Missouri. She managed several restaurant's in Kansas City, Missouri. She also worked at Inter-State Studio. She baked pies by the dozens for the Pentecostal Church, and to donate to the state school fund raisers, and for her garage sales. She enjoyed helping anyone in need. She loved her family, especially her nieces and nephews.

She is survived by two sisters, Jessie Savage and Elizabeth North both of Sedalia; one sister-in-law, Gail S. Pettis of Sedalia; one brother-in-law, Ray Hargrave of Sedalia; several nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be on Saturday Jan. 3, 2009 at 10:00 A.M. at Ewing-Schutte-Semler Funeral Home with Pastor Gordon Adair officiating. The family will receive friends from 9:00 A.M. until service time Saturday at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials to the Children's Therapy Center in care of the funeral home.
