Company B "Fredericksburg Grays" of Fredericksburg, 30th Virginia Infantry, Corse's Brigade, Pickett's Division, 1st Corps, Army of Northern Virginia, C.S.A.

Residence Stafford County VA.; 5'8", dark complexion, bricklayer.
Enlisted on 3/6/1862, he was mustered into "B" Co. VA 30th Infantry as a Private.
Wounded badly 9/17/1862 in thigh and knee at Sharpsburg/Antietam, MD.; still absent 7/1864 due to wound.
He was transferred 8/26/1864 into Veteran Reserve Corps.

Postwar, living at 1402 Main Street, Fredericksburg, Va., married to Julia, he was a plasterer; member of the Myrtle Lodge, No. 50, Independent Order Of Oddfellows (R. S. S.).

On 4/18/1910, age 73 and living with his son Martin L. Anderson, in Richmond, VA., he applied for admission into the Robert E. Lee Camp Soldiers' Home in Richmond, due to "Age and infirm". He was approved 5/4/1910, ordered in 5/14/1910, admitted 6/11/1910, but discharged at his own request 6/29/1910. On 7/12/1910 he wrote a letter requesting reinstatement and was ordered back into the Home 9/9/1910 and re-admitted 9/29/1910.
He was discharged a final time 1/24/1913 at his own request so he could live out his last days at his son's home, which he did.

The 30th Infantry Regiment completed its organization at Fredericksburg, Virginia, in June, 1861. Men of this unit were from Fredericksburg and the counties of Spotsylvania, Caroline, Stafford, and King George.
