Nazi SS Captain, War Criminal. Best known for his participation in the planning and implementation of the Fosse Ardeatine Massacre during the World War II where died three hundred thirty-five Italian hostages. Priebke joined the Nazi Party in 1933, distinguishing himself as a member strong and firm, characteristics that allowed him to join the SS and soon reach the rank of SS-Hauptsturmführer (Captain). He served in the Gestapo under the command of Herbert Kappler in Nazi-occupied Rome. After the Second World War, he took refuge in Argentina where lived for decades until 1991 when his role in the Fosse Ardeatine Massacre was reported in the book "El Pintor de la Suiza Argentina" by Esteban Buch and was tracked down by an American broadcaster. In 1996, he was extradited in Italy where was tried on charges of war crimes. The following year, he was sentenced to fifteen years imprisonment but in 1998 an Military Court sentenced him to life imprisonment. In 1999, the military court surveillance granted him house arrest for health reasons. He died in Rome at the age of one hundred.
