Staff Sergeant William J. Brooks of Birmingham, Alabama attended Scott Elementary, Daniel Payne Middle and learned to play the drums at Jackson Olin High School where he graduated in 1992.
He joined the Army in October of 1995 and received several commodations while serving. William liked silly sitcoms like Gilligan's Island as a kid and he used to make everyone laugh. But when he joined the Army, his serious side emerged. He joined to take care of his daughter.
William mailed a Mother's Day card early this year so it would reach his mother in time. He wrote that he wanted to "make it back home to see everyone" but kept a positive outlook. He said, `I read my Bible and I stay prayed up and if something happens to me it's just my time to go.' He was a member of the Mt. Moriah Baptist Church.
Funeral Services will be held at Antioch Baptist Church on May 13, 2005 at 12:00 p.m. with burial in G.W. Carver. His memories will be cherished by his wife, Roxanne D. Brooks; mother, Linda Brooks; daughters, Ayana T. Freeman and Aaryan L. Brooks; grandmothers, Annie M. Brooks and Willie A.
