Gustav E. Rolland, 80, or Orum died Sunday, March 7, 1999, at his home in rural Orum.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 10, at the First Lutheran Church in Blair. Burial will be in the Blair Cemetery.

Gustav E. Rolland was born Oct. 6, 1918, to Lars M. and K. Matilda (Larsen) Rolland on the family farm located south of Orum.

He attended a rural school in Orum.

An Army veteran, he served during World War II.

On Feb. 14.1947, he married LaVonne Quist at the First Lutheran Church in Blair.

He operated the Orum Store for eight years, before starting a mobile feed milling operation. He then went into the retail farm supply business that he operated from his rural Orum farm.

He enjoyed fishing trips to Canada and watching softball games. Over the years, he sponsored several teams in the Blair area. He built a ball field on the current site of his home for local boys to play. He named the team the Orum Orioles.

He was a member of the First Lutheran Church, Blair American Legion and Blair VFW, where he was a charter member of the First Squad.

He is survived by his wife; two sons (including Kevin) and daughters-in-law, two daughters and sons-in-law, eleven grandchildren; mother-in-law, Clara Quist of Blair; brother and sister-in-law, Phil and Marilyn Rolland of Blair; sister, Margaret Story of Los Gatos, Calif.; sister and brothers-in-law, Helen and Jerry Lallman of Peoria, Ariz., Eunice and Martin Kuhr, Jr. of Blair; brother and sisters-in-law, Quentin and Joan Quist, Arvid and Joan Quist, Darvid and JoAnn Quist, all of Blair.

He was preceded in death by his parents and father-in-law, Alfred S. Quist.
