Henry at a early age moved to Amelia County, Virginia with his parents. When his parents died he sold everything he inherited and moved to Bedford County. He married Elizabeth Bell in Amelia Co, Va. In 1781, he was made First lieutenant of Bedford County Militia. He was granted a large boundry of land. He had 11 children. His homeplace is described as being in Bedford north from what is now called "Centerville" to now "Otterville" on the east side of the road to Big Island near "Riley Fork" which the house still stands today. He and his wife are buried at the entrance of the property about 300 yards from the house.
