Leo J. Adamski, age 88, of Port Edwards, died Friday October 4, 2013 at Ministry St. Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday at St. Alexander's Catholic Church in Port Edwards. Rev. John Swing will officiate. Burial will be in the Village of Port Edwards Cemetery with military rites by the Wisconsin Rapids American Legion Post #9. Friends may call at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 to 11:00 AM. Leo was born May 27, 1925 in Stevens Point to John and Helene (Michalski) Adamski. He attended St. Peter's Grade School and P. J. Jacobs High School in Stevens Point. Leo married Margaret Burant on June 28, 1947 in Stevens Point. He was an accountant at Nekoosa Corporation for many years.
Leo served in the US Army Air Corps during World War II. He flew 34 bombing missions as a ball turret gunner flying in the North Pacific in 1944 and 1945. During his tour of duty Leo was awarded a Distinguished Flying Cross with one Oak Leaf Cluster; Air Medal with Two Oak Leaf Clusters; plus various other awards. Leo was a member of American Legion Post #9 in Wisconsin Rapids.
A member of St. Alexander's Catholic Church for over 50 years, Leo served on the Finance and other committees at the church. He was a member of Knights of Columbus Council #1558. Leo was a great lover of the outdoors. He enjoyed skiing, ice skating, fishing, hunting and traveling with his wife and children all over the United States. He spent many years biking and walking following his retirement.
He is survived by his wife Margaret, two daughters Barbara (Stuart) Tolman of Delray Beach, FL and Diane (Steve) Kizewski of Plover; and one sister Esther Diskerud of Milwaukee. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Carl Adamski.
