Virginia Dare Dolan Barnett, 92, of Olive Street, Bridgeport, died at 1:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2005, in United Hospital Center, Clarksburg, following a brief illness.

Born April 23, 1913, in Weston, a daughter of the late Roy Vincent and Lola John Chidester.

She was twice married: first to John Franklin Dolan, who preceded her in death; and then to Charles Truman Barnett, who also preceded her in death.

Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Donald Michael and Roselee Dolan of Quiet Dell; two stepdaughters, Nancy Macurda of Nashville, Tenn., and Judith Barnhart of Winchester, Va.; five grandchildren, Ann Vincent Urling of Charleston, Jennifer Dolan Mossor of Centreville, Va., Sean Franklin Michael Dolan of Shinnston, Bridget Dolan Babcock of Baltimore, Md., and Kevin Dolan of Orange, Va.; nine great-grandchildren, Alec Michael Vincent, Morgan Alexandra Vincent and Ashton Alexandra Urling, all of Charleston, John Christopher and D.J. Dolan of Clarksburg and Dominique Margaret Rose Dolan of Orange, Va.; five stepgrandchildren, Cynthia King and Kathryn Decker, both of West Palm Beach, Fla., and William Barnett Macurda, Megan Helen Gerard and Charles Truman Macurda, all of Nashville, Tenn.; nine stepgreat-grandchildren, William, Caroline and Grace Macurda, Ian, Allison, Colby and Eliza Gerard, Joseph King and Lindsey Decker; nieces, Sally Gainer Altman of Bridgeport, Pat Hazelwood of Virginia Beach, Va., and Kay King of Flatwoods; and nephews, David McDonald of Charlotte, N.C., and Hugh Gainer of Bridgeport.

She was preceded in death by one son, Col. John Stanley Dolan; sisters, Grace Chidester, Louise Sharlow and Jean McDonald; and brothers, John and Don Chidester.

Mrs. Barnett was a graduate of Weston High School and Glenville State College and received her M.A. degree from West Virginia University in 1952.

She was a master teacher whose career spanned 42 years at Shady Brook School, Weston High School, Pineville High School, Buckhannon-Upshur High School and concluding as a professor at Concord College, Athens.

Virginia's students appreciated her intellect, wit and caring attitude toward and many of them continued to call, visit and correspond with her.

She was Teacher of the Year at Buckhannon-Upshur High School in 1963, Mother of the Year at Concord College for Sigma Tau Gamma fraternity, was honored as Compatriot in Education in 1966 and was honored by the West Virginia Department of Education in 1994 for her outstanding service to the Golden Horseshoe Program.

Appreciation is extended to Anna Jean Coberly of Stealey who opened her home and her heart to Virginia during the past two years of her life.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Weston and an affiliate of Simpson Creek Baptist Church, Bridgeport.
