George Sizemore Kite's parents George Kite 1734 – 1835 and Susan Barrett 1749 VA – 1776 TN. His siblings were: Mary Polly Kite 1804 – 1873; Sarah "Sally" Kite 1807 – 1882 Susan A Kite 1809 – 1879; Benjamin Kite 1810 – 1837; Rachel Kite 1816 – 1898 and Reuben Kite 1820 – 1867.

On June 24, 1923 George became the groom of Elizabeth Smith 1803 – 1838. From this union 2 babies died at birth. The seven living children were: George Rufus Kite 1825 – 1861 Hickman A Price Kite 1826 – 1896; Tilman A "Bob" Kite 1829 – 1907; Burton Kite 1831 – 1865; John Kite Sr. 1832 – 1898; Dock Kite 1834 – 1850 and Hylie Kite 1836 – 1916.

Jan 14, 1838, Elizabeth passed away. The cause of her death or exactly where she was buried is unknown.

On June 4, 1839 George selected Matilda Spears for a wife and mother of his children. Matilda gave birth to 14 children. They were: Rachel Kit 1816 – 1898; Burton Kite 1828 – 1850; John Ruben Kite 1832 – 1898; Dulcena KITE 1840 – 1870; Susannah "Susan" KITE 1841 – 1915; Martin Van Buren (Tuck) KITE 1843 – 1912; James Knox Polk KITE 1844 – 1880; Elizabeth Louisiana Jane KITE 1847 – 1865; Eliza R. Tennessee Kite 1849 – 1899; Benjamin KITE 1850 – 1860; Lucy KITE 1853 – 1860; Newton B Kite 1857 – 1860; Rebecca Ann KITE 1860 – 1921 and Isom H KITE 1860 – 1929.

In 1850, George declared $800.00 in real estate. In 1860 he declared $3000,00 in real estate and $1200.00 in personal property, and he had 12 living in the household.

George Kite was imprisoned as a "Confederate sympathizer", and forced to walk in the rain to Knoxville. he was imprisoned in the Union prison there.

On Dec. 19, 1863 It was reported that George Kite was a Pow, sick with diphtheria, in the Union Prison Hospital. He never recovered. On Dec 2, 1864 George Sizemore Kite died.

His body was returned to Hawkins Co. to to be buried in Kite Cemetery in Persia. Distraught Matilda, with the support of her family and friends, gathered at his grave site to bid him farewell. (bio by Audrey DeCamp Hoffman)
