Elder Beaton Daniell was born in the new county of Clarke, just formed from Jackson County, and area later became Oconee. Beaton was the 16th of 23 children of Revolutionary Soldier Veteran, William Daniell. He was the 5th child by William's second wife, Mary Melton Daniell. Elder Beaton Daniell was a minister of the Primitive Baptist Church, as were at least two of his brothers. They were always called Elders and not Reverands and had occupations and not salaried by the churches they served.

The engraved marker at his burial was placed by his grandchildren who apparently did not know that he used the spelling of Beaton for all of his lifetime. His handwritten letters always included the a in Beaton.

Beaton Daniell married on April 12, 1821, Martha Hodge, daughter of Sherwood Hodge. They had five children including the youngest, John H.N.Daniell, who died July 23, 1861, in the CSA.
