Sydenaham. . . the stories the records don't tell us.
He was born in England or Constantinople/Istanbul, Turkey.
He is referred to as Scotish in several records.
Served in the Seaforth Highland regiment. Lost his left arm in the Boer War (1899-1902). This is a consistent identifying factor through many of the records.
Emigrated to Montreal, Quebec, Canada with 1st wife, Emily Ellen (Franks) Glenister-Palaeologus in October 1904.
They are living in Toronto, Ontario, Canada for the birth of their first two sons:
Sydenham Glenister-Palaeologus on 28 May 1905
Gordon Cecil Glenister-Palaeologus on 24 July 1906
By Sept 1910, he is living in San Francisco, California with wife Emily and their two boys. He is working as a bookkeeper for the Union iron works.
Their youngest child, Contantine A. Palaeologus, was born in Los Angeles Co., California on January 20, 1913.
Sydenham and Emily split up by 1917. He is found on a passenger list for the S. S. Saratoga sailing from Havana, Cuba on May 27, 1917 with his wife, Diana Zoe Glenister, age 20, for passage to New York, arriving on May 31, 1917. He continues to have ties to Havana thru 1939.
Diana is also listed as his wife on his World War I Draft Registration Card. They are living at 150 West 65th St, New York, NY on Sept 18, 1918. He gives his name as Sydenham Glenister Palaeologus.
For the 1920 Census he and Diana are living at 253 Forty-Fifth St in Manhattan, New York Co., New York. This is the only U.S. census Sydenham is found in.
Nothing is found in records until late 1936. What became of Diana is unknown at this time (Dec 2013).
On November 30, 1936, Sydenham marries for a 3rd time to Mrs. Georgianne "Shan" (Sinclair) Holloway in Miami, Dade Co., Florida. They have one daughter, Martha Jane Glenister-Palaeologus, born 1938-1939 in Florida. Georgeanne is living in Miami, Florida for the 1940 Census with 1 year old daughter, Martha Jane. She gives her marital status as Married but Sydenham is not enumerated in the household.
He is included in the Index to Alien Arrivals by Airplane at Miami, Florida on November 15, 1937 and February 7, 1939. Both times he gives his birthplace as Constantinople/Istanbul, Turkey
