Ernest LeRoy Shepard, was born
at Seapo, Kans., and died at St.
Joseph Hospital, Concordia.
He was united in marriage to Maude E.
Walton on September 12, 1897, and
to this union were born six children
all of whom survive.
Mr. Shepard spent his entire life in
and around Wayne. He served his
community and county as an adept
and ardent worker. He was a member
of the board of county commissioners
for two terms. He was a member of
the Masonic, Elk and I.O.O.F. lodge.
He was always eager and willing to
give his time and abilities to
neighbors and friends in need of wise
council.
Survivors include his widow, four
daughters, Mrs. D. A. McClure, Kearney,
Neb., Mrs. D. V. Nixon, Mrs. William
Havel and Mrs. John Chaput, all of
Concordia; two sons, James W. of
Redondo Beach, Cal., and E. L. jr.,
of Topeka; a brother, A. D. of Oakland,
Cal.; 10 grandchildren, four great-
grandchildren and many relatives
and friends.
Funeral services were held Tuesday
morning, May 2, from Wayne church
with the Rev. John Frint in charge.
Interment was at Pleasant Hill cemetery
in Concordia.
A Masonic service was held at the grave.
