Death: Sep. 27, 1985

Actor. Born in San Francisco, California, he was great veteran character actor in over a 160 films and television shows. He began his career acting at Santa Clara College, before taking up residence at the Pasadena Playhouse in 1927 and made his Broadway revue in the musical "Cape Cod Follies" in 1929. In 1934, he headed back to Hollywood where he was signed to Paramount studios and had great success in the movies, His many outstanding performances were in films to include "G-Men" (1935), "Johnny Apollo" (1940), "Guadalcanal Diary" (1943), "Easy Living" (1949), "Peyton Place" (1957), "We Joined the Navy (1963), "Airport" (1970) and "Hannah and Her Sisters "(1985), his last film. For television, he appeared as a regular on "77 Sunset Strip", "Laramie", "Julia", "The Virginian", "Archie Bunker's Place" and many more. He died of cancer at age 83 in Los Angeles, California. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
