Edgar Evans Hillyer, 61, vice the Clay City Pipe Co. and a life resident of Uhrichsville, died of a coronary thrombosis in his home Saturday at 5 p.m. Active in operation of Clay City until his death, Mr. Hillyer last July made an airplane tour of modern plants in Mississippi and Kansas to get ideas for rebuilding a new, modern plant to replace the one destroyed by fire June 9. Mr. Hillyer was born in New Philadelphia but moved to Uhrichsville early in his life. He was graduated by Uhrichsville High in 1912. He attended Ohio State University and majored in ceramic engineering. His college career was interrupted by World War I. He served in France and Germany as a first lieutenant with Battery C of the 322 Field Artillery Battalion in the 83rd Division and was awarded the Purple Heart. Mr. Hillyer returned to Uhrichsville and took a job with the Evans Pipe Co. He-later accepted a position with the Stillwater Clay Products Co. In 1924 he joined several other prominent Twin City residents in building the Clay City Pipe Co., one of the voungest but most progressive plants in the Twin City area. He was a trustee of the Uhrichsville Presbyterian Church, first commander of Waterford Post of the American Legion and a past member of the Republican Executive Committee of Tuscarawas County. He also was a member of Mystic Tie Lodge, F. & A. M., Emir Grotto and B. P. O. E. Lodge. He is survived by his widow, Lois Coldren Hillyer; two children, Hudson, who served as his assistant at Clay City, and Mrs. David Shelley of Manassas, Va.; his mother, Mrs. Viola Hillyer, and four sisters, Mrs. Mary Carter, Mrs. Harry Handley, Mrs. Walter Sundell and Mrs. William Moody, all of Cuyahoga Falls. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Presbyterian Church with the Rev. George Setterfield officiating. Burial will be in Union Cemetery. Friends may call at the Uhrich Funeral Home from 7 to ft tonight and at the church after noon Tuesday.
