Sidney Engle, 87, of Ripley, formerly of Bomont, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, September 27, 2013, at home after a short illness.

Sidney was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church, Ripley; a member of Ripley Masonic Lodge No. 16 AF & AM; former Boy Scout leader; Sunday school class teacher; a member of Mountaineer T model club; passionate woodworker; World War II Army Air Corps veteran; and he retired from Union Carbide Tech Center with 41 years of service.

He was the son of the late Arthur Wellington Engle and Bettie Ashley Engle. He was also preceded in death by his grandson, Todd Engle, and seven brothers and sisters.

Sidney is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Reba D. Engle. He was a loving and caring father to his children, Linda and her husband, Michael Julian, of Hilton Head, S.C., Larry and his wife, Tina Engle, of Albany, Ohio, and Douglas and his wife, Elaine Engle, of Marietta, Ga.; sister, Betty Stiles of Sayville, N.Y.; grandchildren, Ashley, Julian, Adam, Branden, Courtney, Chris and Eric; and several great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, October 2, at Matics Funeral Home, Inc. with the Rev. Basil Hensley and Pastor Harold Slate officiating. Burial will be at Hiram Samples Cemetery with the Masonic Lodge and American Legion Post 61 performing graveside rites.

Visitation will be Tuesday, October 1, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Online condolences may be expressed at maticsfuneralhome.com.
