Juanita Proffitt McCarter Hurst died Saturday, April 17, 2004, at Baptist Hospital. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Ruby Williams Proffitt; first husband, John Edward (Bud) McCarter; son, John Michael (Porky) McCarter; sister, Olie Louise Proffitt; and brother, Wilbur Eugene Proffitt. She is survived by her husband Bill Hurst; daughter, Rita Jean Dills and husband Tugar; son, Robert Edward (Eddie) McCarter; grandchildren, Sherry, Pam, Brittany and Jake; great-grandchildren, Stephen, Michael, Kenny and Mandy; sisters, Bernice Todd and husband Bill, Betty Sue McClanahan; and several nieces and nephews. The family received friends Monday at Highland South Memorial Park. Graveside services were on Tuesday at Highland South with the Rev. Ken McClanahan officiating.
