Funeral services for Fred Max Matheny, age 63 of Mt. Juliet, TN will be held on Sunday, September 29, 2013 at 2:00PM from the chapel of Whitson Funeral Home with burial to follow at Cookeville City Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 12:00Noon till service time at 2:00PM. Courtney del Varle' will officiate at the services.

Mr. Matheny passed away on Friday, September 20, 2013 at the Kindred Nursing and Rehabilitation-Smith County. Fred Max Matheny was born on February 16, 1950 in Fentress County, TN. His adoptive parents were the late Nashaw B. and Nannie Pearl (Fergerson) Matheny. His father was in on the beginning of the Tennessee Highway Patrol; sheriff of Putnam County and a TBI agent until retirement. His mother was a teacher in Putnam County until her retirement. Fred attended Algood School, Cookeville Senior High School and Tennessee Tech University.

He had a life-long love for music, poetry, and song writing that he shared with his many friends through the years. He enjoyed being surrounded by his collection of songs and poetry. No matter where he was, you would find this to be a focal point of his interests.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his Maternal Grandparents: John and Maggie Fergerson; Paternal Grandparents: Charles Winton (Wint) Matheny and Mary Jane Storie Matheny; and a Sister: Janice Matheny Adkins.

He is survived by Brothers and Sisters: Kirby Hinds-Ohio; Sam Hinds-Kansas; David Roysden-LaFayette,TN; Dale Roysden-Atlanta,GA; Linda Wright-Texas; 4 Half-Brothers and 1 Half-Sister; Step-Father: Paul Malone; Brother-In-Law: Billy Adkins; 3 Nephews: Bill, Vernon, and Harley Adkins. Plus an additional host of nieces, and numerous cousins.
