James William Eakins, son of Joseph M. and Eliza Ann Roderick Eakins, was born June 10, 1873, at Pontiac, Ill., and passed away December 1, 1951, at his home in Narka, Kan., at the age of 78 years, 5 months and 21 days.

Eakins moved to Nebraska at an early age and when he was 14 he came to Kansas, living the rest of his life near Hubbell, Neb., and Narka, Kan.

He was married September 4, 1901, to Essie J. Boyer and to this union two children were born, Mrs. Georgia Beaver and Harold J. Eakins. Soon after their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Eakins began farming on a rented farm near Hubbell, Neb., and in 1910 purchased a farm in that community. They lived there until 1931 when they moved to Narka. He was a member of the Presbyterian church and a trustee for nine years.

Two sisters preceded him in death, Mrs. Mary Wolfe of Hope and Emma Johnson of Superior, Neb., who passed away on November 2 of this year. He leaves to mourn his passing his widow, a son and a daughter, three grandchildren; a half-sister, Mrs. Sylvia Dovel of Narka; a half-brother, Albert Eakins of Sharpsville, Ind., and a host of relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held from the Narka Presbyterian church, conducted by the Rev. Harry Hirsch. Interment was in Maple Grove cemetery.
