Emma grew up in the home built by her grandfather, George Crites, at 117 E. 3rd St., Dover, Ohio. She was the second youngest of ten children born to William Frances Crites and Catherine Moore. Her siblings were: Clara May, Helen Nora, Mary Irene, William E., Wealthy Elizabeth, Charles Malcolm, Katherine, Minnie,and Edith. Mary Irene, William E., and Charles Malcolm died young.
In 1902, when she was 23, she married Harry Stockton Ream, who was 20 years her senior. They had two children, Harry Stockton Ream, Jr., and Samuel Croxton Ream. They lived in a home just two blocks from where Emma grew up.
Emma was interested in her family history and for a number of years worked to gain membership in the DAR. She was granted admittance through her GGGrandfather, Jacob Crites, who served as a private in the Revolutionary War. Her member number is #251573. She was the founder of the New Philadelphia, Ohio, chapter of the DAR.
Her nickname "Mee-Mee" was given to her by her grandchildren. She didn't like the name Florence and always used her middle name, Emma.
