Wilma was born to Henry K and Mary Marie McDermed Howard. She married Kenneth C. Kusch February 14, 1936 in Fairview. Children are Shannon Marie and William Kusch.


Funeral Services for Mary Wilma Kusch, 95, of Fairview, will be 10:30 a.m, Tuesday, August 13, 2013 at the Fairview Mennonite Brethren Church. Pastor Reverend James Suderman will officiate. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery. Arrangements are by the Fairview Funeral Home, Inc. Visitation will be Sunday, August 11th from 1 to 6 pm and Monday, August 12th from 9am to 7pm at the Fairview Funeral Home Inc. Mary Wilma Kusch was born February 10, 1918 in Pond Creek, OK to Henry K. and Mary Marie (McDermed) Howard and passed away August 9, 2013 at St. Anthonys Hospital in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Wilma attended school in Medicine Lodge, Kansas graduating in 1935. On February 14, 1936 she married Kenneth C. Kusch in Fairview. They were soon blessed with two children, Shannon Marie and William (Bill) Kusch. She was an active member in Mennonite Brethren church; she sang in the choir and taught Sunday school. Wilma was the president of Womens Miss Sorority. She helped organize Pioneer girls and was chairman of the committee for 5 years. Wilma worked as a Pink Lady in the Fellowship Home for many years. Wilma was the first WWII President of the American Legion Auxiliary and served until 1946. She was a 50 year member of the VFW at Enid. She was a member of the American Gold Star Mother, Inc. serving as officers and President in the Enid Chapter. She also served on the Department of Oklahoma and National Board as Sgt-of-Arms and National Chaplin for 3 years. Wilma worked in the Republican precinct for the County and State Party, serving as the State Committee Woman and District Committee Woman on the State Executive Committee under three State Chairmen. She was also the past president of Gamma Mothers Club and East Fairview Home Demonstration Club. In 1964 Wilma attended the National Republican Convention in San Francisco for Barry Goldwater. Wilma is survived by her daughter Shannon DeYoung, two grandsons, Craig and David DeYoung, and one sister Alice May Rodgers, She was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth, son William (Bill) Howard Kusch, two brothers Gordon Howard and Wayne B. Howard, and three sisters Glena Lee Howard, Ruth Marie Thomas, and Patty JoAnn Tate. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Legion or the Fairview Fellowship Home with Fairview Funeral Home Inc. acting as custodian. Condolences may be made online at
