Funeral Services At St. John's Set for Wednesday
Bert Hollingsworth Winham, 53, secretary of United Gas Corp. died at 3 p.m. yesterday at a local sanatarium where he had been a patient since March 2. He had been associated with United Gas for 26 years.
A rosary for Mr. Winham will be held at 8 p.m. today at the Osborn Funeral Home Chapel, with funeral services at 10:15 a.m. tomorrow at St. John's Catholic Church. The Rev. F.N. Johnston, assistant pastor of St. John's will officiate. Burial will be in Forest Park Cemetery.
Mr. Winham was born and educated in Shreveport and, except for six years in Houston, lived here all his life. After eight years with various local companies, in November, 1930, he joined United Gas as secretary to N.C. McGowen, then head of the operating subsidiaries of United Gas Corp.
He was named assistant secretary of United Gas Pipe Line Co. and Union Producing Company in November, 1937, and became assistant to the president of the United Gas companies in April, 1947.
On October 1, 1951, he was elected secretary of United Gas Corp. and secretary and assistant treasurer of United Gas Pipe Line Co. and Union Producing Co.
Mr. Winham was a member of the American Petroleum Institute, Ark-La-Tex Chapter, the Independent Natural Gas Assn. of America and the Independent Petroleum Association of American. He was also a member of the Palmetto Country Club and the Shreveport Club, and was secretary-treasurer of the latter at the time of his death. He was a member of the St. John's Catholic Church.
Survivors are his widow, Mrs. Eleanor Bronsell Winham, of 3861 Fairfield Avenue, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. Winham of 509 Stratford Avenue, and one sister, Mrs. M.A. O'Sullivan, formerly of Shreveport and now a resident of New Orleans.
Pallbearers at Mr. Winham's funeral include J.H. Miracle, R.E. Hull, W.W. Wilson, Ed Parkes, B.M. Byrd, J. Lee Daniels, and Downes Poindexter, all of Shreveport, and D.T. Howell of New York.
Honorary pallbearers will be all employees of United Gas Corporation.
