Entered the service June 23, 1918, at Galesburg; to Camp Grant; assigned to Company B, 344th Infantry, 86th Division; transferred to Company D, 317th Infantry, 80th Division, October 24, 1918; transferred to Battery B, 313th FA, 80th Division, February 3, 1919; overseas service; 6 days in the trenches; 354 days in the service; discharged June 12, 1919.
Carl H Betz, 78, of 1423 E Fremont St, a former Galva resident, died Sunday at 12:20 AM at St Mary's Hospital.
He was born near Wataga on July 2, 1895, and married Winona Bloomfield on June 11, 1929, at Wataga. He was a section foreman for the Burlington Railroad for 51 years, retiring in 1968. Mr. Betz served in the Army during World War I and was a member of the Galva Drum and Bugle Corps.
Surviving with his widow are a son, Donald C of Galesburg; two sisters, Mrs. Earl Folger, Neponset, and Mrs. William Riley, Galesburg, and two grandchildren.
Graveside service will be Tuesday at 2:30 PM at Wataga Cemetery. Friends may call today from 7-9 PM at Johnson-Gill-Schuster Chapel, Galva.

Graveside services for Carl H Betz, 78, of 1423 E Fremont St, formerly of Galva, who died Sunday at St Mary's Hospital, were Tuesday at Wataga Cemetery with Rev. Kenneth W Goodell, pastor of Faith United Methodist Church, officiating. Pallbearers were Forrest Kiplinger, Francis Nordstrom, TC Craver, Elmer and Gale Witte and JW Clevenger.
