Ruth Blankenship Norton, 70, of 5365 Figsboro Road, Martinsville, died Sunday, March 17, 2002, at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County.
She was born in Martinsville on May 17, 1931, to Mary Elsie Hubbard Blankenship and the late James Curtis Blankenship. A brother, James Hammond Blankenship also preceded her in death.
She graduated from Martinsville High School in 1950, was a member of the Collinsville Lioness Club, Beaver Creek Garden Club, and was a Master Gardener in the Henry County Extension Agency. She also was an officer of elections, Figsboro Precinct, Reed Creek District, and she was a member of McCabe Memorial Baptist Church and the Bessie Barker Sunday school class.
Surviving in addition to her mother are her husband, Louis Guy Norton Jr. of the home; two daughters, Janice Lynn Norton of Martinsville and Mary Katherine Norton Slate of North Wilkesboro, N.C.; one son, Louis Guy Norton III of Collinsville; two grandchildren; one sister, Frances Ann Blankenship of Martinsville; and one brother, Ernest Lewis Blankenship of Martinsville.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at McCabe Memorial Baptist Church with the Rev. Lewis Harris officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Burial Park.
The family will receive friends at McKee-Stone Funeral Services from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. today, and other times at the home.
Memorials may be made to the Collinsville Lioness Club or McCabe Memorial Baptist Church Building Fund, 107 Clearview Drive, Martinsville, Va. 24112.
