Actor. A screen, stage, radio and television figure, he is best known for being the voice of the cartoon character "Mr. MaGoo," and for playing 'Thurston Howell' on the classic 1960s television show "Gilligain's Island." Perhaps his best known film role was as James Dean's ineffectual father in "Rebel Without a Cause." His other films include "Pat and Mike," "Man of a Thousand Faces," "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World," and "Myra Breckinridge."
