William S. Brooks, 74 of 704 E. Oak St., died Monday night at the Clay County Hospital. He was a native of Canada and came to Brazil in 1943 and had been employed by Ayrshire Collieries and Quality Coal Corp. He was a member of the First Evangelical United Brethren Church and Brazil Masonic Lodge No. 264.
Surviving are the widow, Lillie; a daughter, Mrs. Marjorie Edworthy of Calgary, Alberta, Canada; a stepson Alva Boyce of Harmony; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Russell Branum of Brazil and Mrs. John Nelson of Decatur, Ill.; two brothers and two sisters, Wess and Alvis Brook and Mrs. Clara McBain and Mrs. Una Dutton, all of Canada; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The body was taken to the Lawson Funeral Home where friends may call after 4 p.m. Wednesday and where services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday. The Rev. Kenneth P. Angle will officiate and burial will be in Clearview Cemetery. Masonic memorial services will be held at 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Lawson chapel.
