MRS. WEATHERBY ADDISON, DEAD
Was One of Oldest and Most Beloved Citizens of That Village May 13.
ADDISON—Mrs. Elizabeth Weatherby, one of Addison's oldest and move beloved citizens, died at her home here yesterday afternoon at the age of 88 years.
Thursday afternoon Mrs. Weatherby was out visiting friends and was apparently in average health. She went to bed at nine o'clock and two hours later was found unconscious by her son, George H. Weatherby who went into her room to see if she were comfortable. She did not regain consciousness and yesterday afternoon at 4 o'clock passed away.
Mrs. Weatherby, who was formerly Miss Elizabeth Erwin, was born in the town of Erwin October 1, 1833, the daughter of Major Arthur Erwin. Major Erwin was the son of Col. Arthur Erwin of Revolutionary fame and who purchased the township of Painted Post in 1759, part of which township derived It's name from the Erwin family.
Mrs. Weatherby secured her early education in the district schools and later attended Elmira College. All her life was spent in Addison and vicinity.
November 2, 1853 she was united in marriage to George Weatherby of Norwich, N. Y. Her husband died in 1861, but eight years after her marriage. "Grandma"' Weatherby, as she was lovingly called by her many friends, crowded her long years with much happiness and usefulness.
Mrs. Weatherby is survived by one sister, Mrs. Ann McKay of this place and one son, George H. Weatherby, also of Addison. The funeral will be held Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock. The Rev. Peter R. Ross of Binghamton will officiate. Burial will be made in the Addison cemetery.
