John Bigge was born between 1445 and 1455 at the latest, probably in Benenden, Kent, England. John was the son of Richard and Agnes Bigge. Richard named three sons, Robert, Thomas and John, in his will of 1474. From the wills of her father and brother, Thomas, we learn that, about 1475, John married Alice Glover of Benenden, daughter of John Glover. They were married at St. George’s Church in Benenden. John died very young, in probably about 1480, at age 30. He must have been sick, because he had time to make a will in 1479. He didn’t name any children, but did bequeath to his sons, so he had at least two, who must have been minors at the time. John was buried in the churchyard of St. George Church at Benenden, as requested in his will. Richard was apparently his only son to survive to be an adult, because he is the only grandson named in his grandfather Glover’s will of 1489. Since Alice was not named in her father’s will, she too probably died before 1489.
