Thomas Benson Plunkett, Sr., 66 year old veteran Winn logging contractor, was fatally stricken with a heart attack at his residence at 3 p.m., Wednesday, June 27.
Services are planned for Friday afternoon at 3 p.m. in the Southern Funeral Home Chapel.
Mr. Plunkett, a native of Winn Parish, was well known in the logging business.
He was a member of the crew which removed a giant cypress from Coochie Break in 1927. At that time, the tree was what remained the world's fifth oldest living thing.
Mr. Plunkett was a member of the Masonic Lodge and a World War I veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Floda Baker Plunkett, four sons, Thomas B., Plunkett, Jr., Jack Plunkett, Winnfield, Charles Leo Plunkett, Ruston, Billy P. Plunkett, Colfax; two daughters, Mrs. Margie DeLoach, Lake Charles; and Mrs. Bettie Hicks, Arlington, Texas; two brothers, Paul Plunkett, California; Willie Garr Plunkett, Arizona; two sisters, Mrs. Nena Davies, Winnfield, and Mrs. Adlee Baker, Quitman, Mississippi.
The Rev. R. H. Staples, Pastor of the First Methodist Church in Winnfield, will conduct the services and burial will be in the Garden of Memories.
