Berthe Lillie May Leonard was the youngest child of John Francis Leonard and Capitoline Gendreau in Sweetsburg, Quebec (now part of Cowansville). On Dec. 25, 1920, May married Ray Ruiter, a descendant of the first settler in Cowansville. After his university studies, she and Ray settled in Birmingham, Alabama around 1937. She was survived by her sister Mrs. Laura Lippe of Lac Megantic, Quebec, Canada and her brother Lionel Leonard of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
