Mary M. Akins, 95 of Star, died Friday, September 13, 2013 at home. Services pending with Bowman Funeral Parlor of Garden City.

Mary M. Shockley was born December 17, 1917 at Richfield, Idaho, the oldest daughter of Nathaniel and Lorena Shockley. She graduated High School May 17, 1935 at Richfield, and attended a year of Business School in Twin Falls. She married Paul Akins in 1937. Later, they moved to Bremerton, Washington where Paul did Construction Work during the war. Moving back to Richfield, they bought a farm there following the war years. They farmed there for several years, and then moved to Midvale, Idaho. After several years there, they moved to Star, Idaho in the fall of 1953. Mary was a farm wife for many years and also worked in Boise, for the phone company for four years, and then she went to work for Sears for seventeen and a half years. Mary retired in 1978. She and Paul traveled to many parts of the United States, particularly enjoying several trips to Tennessee and Texas to visit relatives.
Paul died January 1, 1994 and Mary continued to live in Star. She was cared for at home by her son and daughter in law, Lloyd and Betty Akins until her passing. She is survived by Lloyd and Betty of Star and daughter and son in law, Diane and Carmen Hudson of Olympia, Washington. She is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. She is also survived by sister, Bertha Mullen of Melba. Mary was preceded in death by her folks, four brothers, Cecil, Raymond, Henry, Wesley and three sisters, Etta Lee, Lunetta, and Lorena Ann.
Graveside services will be held at the Star Cemetery, Friday, September 20, 2013
