Obituary:
Evelyn Martha Peterson, passed away on Thursday, September 12, 2013 with her family at her side, at Parmly Residence in Chisago City, Minnesota.

Evelyn was born February 12, 1919 in Scandia, Minnesota, the youngest child of Oscar and Hilda Nickelson. She was raised on a farm on Highway 97 and was baptized and confirmed at Elim Lutheran Church in Scandia. Evelyn attended Big Lake Country School, south of Scandia and went on and attended Forest Lake High School, where she graduated in 1937. She met and later married Carleton J. Peterson, another Scandia Swede, on July 26, 1941. To this union 6 children were born.

The Peterson family lived in Almelund for 50 years, where Evelyn was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. She also served several years on Family Pathways Board of Directors. Evelyn was an outstanding cook and worked in the kitchen both at North Branch School District and Chisago lakes Hospital and also was the head cook at the Chisago County 4-H building in Rush City for a number of years. She was well known for her delicious rye bread and sold many many loaves over the years. Evelyn started her own catering business and provided delicious food and a beautifully decorated serving table for many weddings and other local gathers.

She was an avid bird watcher, reader, and an accomplished seamstress. Evelyn and her sister and sister-in-laws assembled and tied many quilts for their families. She and Carleton did a great deal of traveling throughout the U.S. and Sweden; but especially enjoyed the North Shore.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 63 years Carleton, her son-in-law Truman Olson, her 3 brothers Victor, Clifton, and Irving, and her sister Ruth.

She leaves to mourn, her daughters Elizabeth Olson of St. Paul, Mary (Del) Johnson of North Branch, Norm (Linda) Peterson of Almelund, Curt (Diane) Peterson of Forest Lake, Mark (Candy) Peterson of White Bear Lake, & Steve (Laurie) Peterson of Lindstrom; 14 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; & 3 great great grandchildren.

The family would like to express our heartfelt thank-you to the wonderful caring staff of both Ecumen Parmly LifePointes and St. Croix Hospice.
