Anna J. Probst, 96, formerly of Effingham, passed away at 6:21 p.m., Monday, August 20, 2012 at Quincy Place in Denver, Colorado.
Anna was born July 31, 1916 in Shelby County, the daughter of Bernard and Katherine (Schutte) Schumacher. She married Albert C. Probst on February 26, 1935 in Sigel and he preceded her in death in 2004.
In addition to being a wonderful mother to 7 children, Anna was a very active member of the Effingham community. All her life she was a member of Sacred Heart Parish, where she was president of the Altar Society, served as president of the school board, and sang in the choir. Her love of sewing led her to Jansen's Department Store where she managed the fabrics department for 20 years. She volunteered as a Girl Scout leader and as a precinct committee leader in many elections. When she turned 90, she moved to Denver Colorado to be near her children. At Quincy Place in Denver, she was the reigning scrabble champion, a prolific quilter, and an avid fan of the Colorado Rockies baseball team.
Anna was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Albert; grandson, Andrew McDevitt; two brothers, Harold and Bernard Schumacher; two sisters, Bernice Wilkens and Katherine Gadel.
