Jewel Velma Garner McInnes was the youngest daughter of Henry Anderson Garner and Adah Leuna Jones. She was born in Payson, Lincoln County, Indian Territory before Oklahoma statehood. Jewel married William "Bill" Arthur McInnes, 13 October 1929, Frederick, Tillman County, Oklahoma. Bill died 16 January 1956. Their children were Marca Lee Jennette McInnes Murray, William "Bill" Dale McInnes, and Betty Lou Ann McInnes who died as an infant.
Mrs. McInnes graduated from Oklahoma College for Women in 1928. She taught school, worked for Economy Publishing Company, the Oklahoma Welfare Department, and owned and managed a nursing home in El Reno, Oklahoma, with her friend, Opal Duncan Thompson. After selling the nursing home, Mrs. McInnes worked for Upjohn Nursing Service. Jewel and Bill joined the University Place Christian Church. In 1943 Jewel and her family joined Pennsylvania Avenue Christian Church, Oklahoma City, their neighborhood church. She was an active member until she moved to Fort Worth, Texas. She lived in Oklahoma City from July 1931 to July 1996.
Her services were held at 11:00, 31 September 2005, under the direction of Hahn-Cook-Street & Draper Funeral Home in Oklahoma City. Mrs. McInnes is survived by her daughter and son in-law, Marca Lee and Buford James " Jim" Murray, Arlington, Texas; her daughter in-law, Martha "Alleen" Sumpter Nolan, Wendell, North Carolina; her granddaughter, Marilea Amelia Murray Hickman and her husband, Winn Hickman, Arlington, Texas; her grandson, William James "Jim" Murray 50529182, and his wife, Sondra Berry Murray, Austin, Texas; her granddaughter, the Rev. Martha Luanne McInnes, and her husband, the Rev. David Dean, of Sutton Coldfield, United Kingdom; and her grandson, Alan Dale McInnes, and his wife, Barbara McDonald McInnes, Raleigh, North Carolina. Her grandchildren are Marshall Winn Hickman, Marlea Elizabeth Hickman, Anna Catherine Murray, Jay Spencer Murray, Claire Elizabeth Murray, Hannah Julia McInnes-Dean, Amelia Grace McInnes-Dean, Lydia Jewel McInnes, and Bailey Rose McInnes, her sister in-law, Mabel Jones McInnes, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and a niece and her husband, Marvel Morton Mitchell and Howard Mitchell, Harrah, Oklahoma.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her sisters, Lillian Lee Garner Mayes, and Iva Louotta Garner Lydick Foster; and her son, the Rev. William "Bill" Dale McInnes; daughter, Betty Lou Ann McInnes; her niece, Louotta Lydick Cruzan and her husband, Melvin Cruzan.
Jewel lived 99 years, 8 months and 20 days. Her services were conducted by the Reverend Loma Sullivan in Oklahoma City Wednesday, 31 August 2005, under the direction of Hahn-Cook-Street & Draper Funeral Home with her burial beside her husband and infant daughter in Rose Hill Burial Park, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. As a friend said, "If Jewel doesn't make it until December, she will still have been born in 1905 and lived until 2005. That is one thing that my mother reminded me of when she was ill some months before her 100th Birthday. Mother was always coming up with stuff that made us all laugh. About 8 months before her 100th Birthday, she said well I have already celebrated being alive and kicking. After all I was conceived 9 months before I was born."
