Billy was the son of Betty Jane and Billy James Hargis. He attended Barnard Elementary and Edison Junior and Senior High School where he was an active thespian and served as the 1972 Senior Class President. Billy attended American Christian College and as a member of the college choir "The All-American Kids" entertained audiences across the country. In 1978, he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from The University of Tulsa. Billy felt his greatest education came from traveling the world with his father, Billy James Hargis, preaching the word of God. He was General Manager of Christian radio station KDLF in Port Arthur, Texas and a frequent contributor to the Christian Crusade newspaper. He appeared in national TV commercials and shows, was featured in print and billboard advertising, and graced a Blue Bell Ice Cream Bar box, clad as a police officer. Billy was a member of the Houston Grand Opera and "Opera To Go," bringing music into Houston classrooms. He received rave reviews in lead roles for the Houston Gilbert & Sullivan Society. Following his father's death in 2004, Billy assumed management of the Christian Crusade ministry. He was avid collector of rare comic books, original cartoon illustrations, and pop culture. One of his most prized possessions was a large metal robot figure named Oom-A-Gog, which was a fixture on KJRH Channel 2's popular 1960s childrens' show Big Bill and Oom-A-Gog. Billy remained a student of the Scriptures throughout his life. He shared his love for God through his extraordinary gift of song, writing and recording many albums. He was a much-loved song leader at Houston's First United Methodist Church for many years and was active in the church choir. Billy's voice was a true force to all who heard it and will always resonate in each of our hearts. Billy was preceded in death by his father, the late Billy James Hargis and his brother, Bryan Joseph.
